Lady DIY Revisited

I told y'all in an earlier posting that I like to help my Daddy with home improvement projects. Today we went to the Home Depot to get lightbulbs, electrical outlet covers, and polyurethane spray for Mommy's Halloween in the Hood project. I had so much fun putting my head through the cutout of Homer.

Sippy Cup 101

Today, Mommy and I had lunch with our friend Janet at MiCocina, and she gave me a sippy cup lesson. Until today, I couldn't figure out what to do with it, but now I sorta get it.

First, I needed to figure out that I still have to suck on it, like a bottle. Then I practiced holding it all by myself.
And Janet reminded me to tip the cup to get the water out. Thanks for the help, Janet! Let me repay you in wet, slobbery kisses!

Seeing Isn't Believing

I'm so glad that my Mommy and Daddy are home from their vacation in France. I missed them. Today I was sitting by Mommy's feet looking out the window into the courtyard when suddenly Daddy appeared staring back in at me. I loved it! I smooshed my face against the glass trying my best to get at him and give him kisses. When I realized that I couldn't reach him through the glass, I looked up at Mommy like, "What's up with that?"

Lady DIY

I was organizing some of our photos tonight and chuckled contentedly when I came across this picture. It is a typical "life in the huddle" moment. When Brad comes home from work, he is so excited to see Ryann that she is often in his arms as he goes about whatever needs doing around the house. In this shot, he was watering the concrete shell of our pool to cure it. Earlier tonight, I watched him juggling her as he tried to turn on the sprinklers. She keeps him company while he brews beer. He takes her in the garage with him when he cranks up the air compressor to air up his tires. I think it is hilarious and sweet at the same time. At this rate, she is sure to be a do-it-yourselfer and one self-sufficient gal!

"Q" is for Quiet Time

At some point each day, Mommy and I settle in to watch Sesame Street and have some quiet time. This is usually right before my afternoon nap, and it's a favorite time of day for both of us. I sit in this same position every day, watching intently and contentedly. Mommy is pretty sure that one day I'm going to look up at her and tell her the letter of the day is "Q" as in "I can be quite quiet and look rather quizzical when watching this quintessential kids show."

My First Day Full of "NO" Lessons

No. The straps of Mommy's flipflops are not the breakfast of champions.

No. You may not pull up on the potted plant, spill the Aqua Globe, and throw the dirt out on the floor (six times!!!).

No. It is not a good idea to pull on Mommy's step ladder because it will probably come crashing down on you.

No. You may not eat Mommy's gift certificate for a mani/pedi.

No. You may not go bare with poo still clinging to your bum around the house because you don't want to put on a clean diaper.

No. You may not rip the covers of Mommy's nice coffee table books (Memaw warned me this one was coming).

No. It is not helpful to grab and wad the clean clothes from the stack as quickly as I can fold them.

No. You may not eat Pearl's food out of her bowl.

No. You may not scratch Mommy's cheeks, neck, nose, eyelids, or any other part of her that you manage to grab.

No. You may not unplug the DSL router while Mommy is trying to update your blog.

Yes. Cry if you must, but you are going to take a nap now.

Yes. Today, is the first day that Mommy wished she was back at work rather than arm-wrestling a whining miniature version of herself.

Yes. I love you, baby girl, but I am so thankful that we are going to a wine dinner tonight with the Bons and Honeycutts.

No. You may not come too.

I Thee Wed...

Usually, Life In The Huddle is a forum for updates about our precious baby girl, Ryann, but today's post is different. It is inspired by my cousin's wedding (from which Ryann and I just returned) and my friend Emily (who just posted a similar tribute to her sweet hubby) and my bad dream last night (in which I was devastatingly told I could no longer be with Brad), and last season's finale of "Grey's Anatomy" (which I just rewatched in anticipation of the season premiere this week).

I love weddings. No matter what size or shape they take, they are a time-honored, sacred tradition of professing and promising to love another forevermore... no matter what. It is about two people who have decided that they simply would not want to go on without the other in their life. And no matter who you are, how old you are, or what kind of relationship you are in, chances are you too get choked up at the notion that in our busy, money- and status-driven society, that kind of devotion still ranks higher in life. And that is why I love weddings... because they remind us never to take for granted those whom we love. Whether we love them because they are family, friends, or that person for whom we searched over so many years, we are reminded to make our love for them known daily.

So this one is for Brad. My life's great love. I would be absolutely and positively lost without you. I love you a bushel and a peck.

As Meredith Grey asked, "Did you say it?" There. Yes, I said it.
